Considering term deposits

Thursday June 26, 2008

Online bank accounts can offer an excellent balance between accessibility and high interest in savings accounts, but if you have money you can put towards long term saving, then you may want to consider term deposits. You can definitely make a reasonably high rate of interest back on your savings with online bank accounts, just not as much as many term deposits allow.

Term deposits will generally offer significantly higher interest rates compared to online bank accounts, but they have their downsides. You may not withdraw your money for the length of term deposits, or else you will be charged a hefty penalty. You also will need to put aside a fairly large amount of money in order to get the best deal.

Online bank accounts have some advantages over term deposits for the average saver. While they may not offer interest rates that are as high, online bank accounts do offer a balance between access and savings potential that you cannot find in other saving products.
